TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT
There was a full house in attendance at the Gala final concert of the Twentieth Anniversary Summer on July 16. The program included Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faune of Debussy, the Shostakovich Chamber Symphony, Mahler's Rückert Lieder sung by guest mezzo-soprano, Kindra Scharich, and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with Ms. Scharich, soprano Meredith Mecum, tenor Kyle Tomlin, and bass Ben Bloomfield. The chorus was comprised of choral singers from a dozen Maine communities who were joined by many of the conductors. The Ninth Symphony had been previously performed at the 10th and 15th anniversaries of the Conductors Retreat at Medomak.
At the beginning of its third decade, the Conductors Retreat at Medomak continues to be a unique and transformative program combining intensive instruction and practice of physical, technical, and musicianship skills, while refining the artistic sensibilities and developing the leadership qualities of its participants. Alumni are currently leaders of organizations in every facet of the profession on 5 continents, including major orchestras and opera companies, leading universities and conservatories, public and private schools, churches, choruses, symphonic bands, and contemporary ensembles.
