Jerald Schwiebert

Is currently on the faculty of the University of Michigan, School of Music, Department of Theatre where he teaches courses in Movement and Acting (Improvisation). Before joining the Michigan faculty, he was Master Movement Teacher for the Graduate Acting Program at Southern Methodist University’s distinguished Meadows School of the Arts. Mr. Schwiebert has an MFA in Directing from the University of California San Diego, La Jolla, where he was one of two students chosen yearly to study with the renowned American stage director, Alan Schneider. He was a member of the Galli Corporate Theatre Company, Germany, has performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Scotland, and was a special guest of Roy Hart Theatre, France. For Direction, an international journal of the Alexander Technique (Australia), he was staff cartoonist. His approach to movement takes a centrist's approach combining various schools and disciplines including, the Alexander Technique, Tai - Chi, Laban, Feldenkrais, Rolfing, Trager, Modern Dance, Afro-Cuban, Mime, Yoga, Stage Combat, Improvisation, Acting, Anatomy, and Physiology. As a movement consultant, he has worked with/for or received referrals from, Dance America, Kalamazoo Education for the Arts, Michigan Massage Therapy Association, Rubenfeld Synergists, University of Michigan Department of Family Practice, U of M Physical Medicine and Rehab, Medical Faculty from Michigan State University’s Department of Osteopathic Medicine, Henry Ford Hospital (Voice Pathology), the Olympic Developmental Program, symphony musicians, as well as the fine Arts Departments of Colleges and Universities across the United States, etc.
In addition he maintains a small private practice.
